These are just bits of buildings, or items, that you may not have noticed before. Some photos may have been used in other threads as they related to a topic. Some are just on this thread. Just things that captured my eye whilst walking around.

New Square.
  The Portland Hotel: Built in 1899 by William Stones; & named after the Duke of Portland.





This is above the door on the 'turret' entrance.

Above & the sides of the front door.

I have no idea why these ladies & gentlemen adorn the outside of the building, except perhaps to give it an exotic  'feel' ?

These initials, on the right, S.E.R. - are found on the top of the building, I believe they stand for Samuel Edward Redfern?

In the early days it was 'Woodheads'; in 2017 it was 'Greggs' & later an art shop.

                                           The grotesques can be found at the top of the columns. They had been gold-plated.

R. J. Stokes was a paint manufacturer & retailer. 
His initials are engraved either side; & the center column the date of 1923.

A Musical theme is going on here in the decoration, from, I believe, the time when J. White & Sons were in the buildings.    They had been in business for around 70 years. The photo on the right was taken 2017 [above "Moo" shop]

                         of the main building.                                                     The gentleman & lady are on the apex of the arcs.

St. Mary & All Saints Churchyard.
Joseph Bower's original gas lamp of 1824; & how it stands, raised, 2018. It was moved from the market place to the churchyard. 



The stone commemorating the Battle of Chesterfield, which lies at the bottom of Joseph  Bower's lamp, in the churchyard.
